Thanksgiving at the Elephant Seal Colony on the Central Coast of California
It was a warm sunny day up at Elephant Seal Land by the Piedras Blancas lighthouse, and, as a result, there wasn't too much action amongst the mostly sleeping groups of young elephant seals. In contrast to the past few weeks, there appeared to be many more young males than females on shore...plus it looked as though many of the elephant seals born this past winter had also come to relax ashore on this lovely fall day. A couple of older males had also shown up maybe to get an early start on laying claim to territory for the upcoming birthing and breeding season in January and February.
